Games you can play while looking at the
photos:
#1 Count the number of bands with Bobby Trimble on the drums.
#2 Count the number of Pabst Blue Ribbon cans in the photos. Pabst, the beer
that makes rockabillies rock (And then fall over).
If you're ever in Green Bay I highly recommend
the Radisson Hotel &
Conference Center Green Bay as a great place to stay. (It's right across
the street from the airport) Also check out the Oneida
Bingo & Casino who put on the Rockin' 50's Fest to celebrate
the 8th anniversary of the Oneida Casino. The Radisson
Hotel is attached to the casino so it's not a long trip. If you want
to let them know how much you appreciated the event, their e-mail address is casino@oneidanation.org.
What
can I say about the Oneida Casino's Rockin' 50's Fest that can convey even a
small part of the experience of being there.
There's not much that I can say without repeating myself over and over. How many
ways can you say, "This band/performer was red hot, house rockin'
rockabilly music and
a great voice.". So I'll pretty much let the pictures speak for
themselves other than to say it was a fantastic week. Music all afternoon and
late into the night and the people I met were there for the music and not just
for the scene.
I've organized it with the bands on the 3 Clans stage on the first page of each
day and a link at the top of the page to the Iroquois Ballroom bands and the Purcell's
Lounge bands for that day. There's also a link to the pictures of the people for that day
and from that page you can go to a new day. The "Up" button under the
banner will take you back to this page from the 3 Clans page and back to 3 Clans
page from the Iroquois and Purcell's pages.
The bands that I wasn't able to get to see I've put a "(Missed)" next
to their name. They weren't bad bands, just bands that I didn't have time to get
to see. That was the only problem I found at the Fest, so much to see, so
little time.
If anyone else has pictures of the bands that I missed that they'd like
posted e-mail
me about it.
On the "People" pictures pages you'll notice that most of them are
beautiful women. That's because I'm male and so I notice women more than men
when I'm looking for subjects. (Although I got in a few myself, especially Friday. I'm the guy with
the red, white, and blue hair.) Even so I was able to photograph only a small
percentage of the beautiful women that were there. (Maybe I need a female assistant to check out the
boys.)
The staff at the Radisson deserves special commendation for their unfailing
friendly service, anything I needed was done with no fuss. From a change of
rooms (So I could have Ethernet access) to getting a refrigerator in the room.
The Oneida Bingo & Casino deserves every accolade they can be given for
putting on this show. If the casino wasn't so far away I'd probably be playing
there as a regular. As is is I'll continue supporting our Western Nations in
their casinos. (Unless they do it again next year!) The Oneida security staff was one of the best I've ever run into. They were
always courteous and friendly and not fazed at all by the parade of strange
people wandering around at all hours.
And special thanks to Phil Doran, Mark Mencher, Bob Timmers and the others who
helped turn this into the best rockabilly party of the year.
