Home Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday

Thursday dawned cloudy but not raining so I took the scooter around for some more sightseeing before returning it. Got back to the hotel to meet up with Thom and Lucy. I met Thom at Viva Las Vegas 5 when he rented theThomAndLucyOnTheBalcony.jpg (117846 bytes) other bed in my room after my usual VLV partner decided to skip this year. They come from Melbourne, Australia and are taking a 3 month tour of Europe, hitting various rockabilly weekenders on the way. They got a room at the Hotel Catalonia also so we could ViewFromThomAndLucys01a.jpg (93561 bytes) get to the various events together. Their room was on the opposite side of the hotel from mine so they didn't have the highway right outside their room. But as they found out that night the drawback of that side was that they had the Lighthouse flashing it's light into their room. We did a bit of exploring Calella before taking an afternoon siesta to get ready to go down to the club party that night. The shops in in Calella shut down from 1:30pm 'til 5:00pm every day for siesta and most of the night spots don't open until 9:00pm. (of course, they don't close until after sunrise)
Around 8pm we went down to the Braseria Les Caves for some dinner before the start of the evenings party at La Nit De Magot. They serve a really great menu for less than 10 Euros for justLaNitDeMagot01.jpg (83372 bytes) about every meal. For the three of us the food and drinks (Kebab, Paella, Calamari, Beer & Sangria) came to less than 25 Euros. LaNitDeMagot03.jpg (125999 bytes)We then went over to La Nit De Magot. What can I say about La Nit De Magot. Hot, smoky, crowded, and totally rocking! The evening started off with DJ Tom spinning red hot rockabilly records until the first band Catty And The Catbones gave us some red hot live music. They're a local rockabilly group that really got the evening off to a rocking start.

After Catty And The Catbones there was more recorded music by Tom and other guest DJs while I wandered around taking pictures of the crowd and interesting people. I was able to get some pictures of Paula whom I'd met the night before. She's a fascinating free spirit, more a heavy metal fan than rockabilly but willing to be anywhere where a party was going on. As for the second set of pictures below, Thom tried taking some pictures of Lucy and me dancing but forgot to use the flash. The camera automatically increases the exposure time to compensate for the low light so the pictures came out looking like they'd been done by Picasso.

The other band of the evening, The Foggy Mountain Rockers from Germany were well worth the cost of the trip over to Spain. They are one of the reasons I wanted to go to the Screamin' Festival, to hear bands that don't get any exposure in the U.S.A. They've been around for ten years but I had never heard of them. They put on a show that started the audience jumping and yelling for more. If the crowd had had their way they wouldn't have been allowed to stop.

A lot of the time we went out to the street outside to escape the heat in the club. They had air-conditioning but it was inadequate to handle the size of the crowd that evening. That little shop on the left in the first picture is a hamburger/hot dog/kebab place that also sells beer and wine. They got a windfall business while the Screamin' Festival was going on. Thom also got pictures of me and Lucy and me outside and I got one of Thom fanning Lucy to cool her off.

Taking pictures was sometimes hard in the club. When I tried to get a picture of Marta, in the first one she thought the red-eye pre flash took the picture and started to walk away. In the second and third her friends tried to get in the act. Finally the fourth one worked.

The rest of this page will be all pictures. I'll let them speak for themselves as you enter La Nit De Magot for a night of partying.
